Vintage / Antique Fe Olds Studio 4 Valve Euphonium / Baritone
This is a Vintage 1965 F.E. Olds, Fullerton, detachable bell forward, 4 Valve Studio Model Euphonium or Baritone. It comes in its original case and with a 12C mouthpiece. The serial number is 528XXX with bell number C89. It is brass laquer with nickel highlights. There is extensive loss of laquer and wear to the brass finish. The nickel portions are in much better shape. There are some small dents or dings. The main 3 valves work, but the fourth valve is stuck. The tuning slide and the 4th vavlve slide work, but all others are stuck. This horn has been in storage since the year 2000.
I used this horn in my German band from 1988 until 2000. At that time I converted to a bell and valve up configuration. This horn back then played very well with a rich lyrical sound. It mixes well with all brass and most saxes. I used this horn in lead, harmony and tuba like parts. This is often the horn or style of horn used in the Oberkrain to play a tuba like part. Not to confuse as this is a tenor range instrument, but with the fourth valve it can be used to play lower than a standard 3 valve model. The 4th valve additionallly provides additional alternate fingerings in the normal range.
